Sandvine Partner ClearSky Secures Customer For Virtual Series Products

Sandvine’s Virtual Series continues to help level the playing field for small CSPs

Waterloo, ON; November 13, 2014 – Sandvine, (TSX:SVC) a leading provider of intelligent broadband network solutions for fixed and mobile operators, today announced that ClearSky has deployed Sandvine’s Policy Traffic Switch Virtual Series, integrated with ClearSky’s Total Traffic Manager solution, for a rural broadband communications service provider (CSP) in New Mexico.

The hosted ClearSky-Sandvine Policy Control as a Service solution provides CSP customers with pre-configured and optimized network policies for data usage monitoring and policy decision/enforcement. It minimizes the effort and resources required by CSPs, and levels the playing field with larger operators that benefit from network policy control solutions deployed in their own networks.

The CSP customer in New Mexico is using the integrated Total Traffic Manager solution for a number of policies, including optimization of their wholesale roaming charges, management of tethering traffic, and self-service subscription to a tethering plan. Customizable advice-of-charge pages also let subscribers top up data plans.

“An NFV-based solution is an optimal way to enable regional CSPs with advanced policy control capabilities that have traditionally been available only to national operators,” said Frank Danielson, Chief Technology Officer, ClearSky. “Many of our customers are growing quickly and a virtualized policy solution deployment provides the agility and seamless scalability necessary to bring services to market quickly.”

Supporting industry and open standards, the Sandvine Virtual Series delivers Sandvine’s powerful Policy Engine, PCEF, and PCRF as an elastically scalable virtual network function for Network Functions Virtualization (NFV)-ready networks. NFV is a carrier-led effort to move away from proprietary hardware, motivated by desires to dramatically reduce the cost of deployment by using standard x86 commercial off-the-shelf (COTS) hardware for everything. Running all functions on identical, shared hardware promises a much simpler, more efficient network.

Sandvine’s network policy control solutions add intelligence to fixed, mobile and converged communications service provider networks to enable services that can increase revenue and reduce network costs. Powered by Sandvine’s Policy Engine and SandScript policy language, Sandvine’s networking equipment performs end-to-end policy control functions including traffic classification, and policy decision and enforcement across the data, control and business planes. Sandvine’s products provide actionable business insight, the ability to deploy new subscriber services and tools to optimize traffic while enhancing subscriber Internet quality of experience.

Sandvine’s network policy control solutions are deployed in more than 250 networks in over 90 countries, serving hundreds of millions of data subscribers worldwide, www.sandvine.com.
