Procera to buy Sandvine and take its nameRead More
The great telco analytics mash-up has continued with the news that Procera backer Francisco Partners is going to acquire Sandvine and then merge the two companies together to trade under the Sandvine name. Procera's current CEO, Lyn Cantor, will head up the new combined company.
The deal sees Francisco paying about $450 million for Sandvine. Sandvine provides DPI-based traffic classification and policy control and enforcement engines. Procera bases policy enforcement engines on its PacketLogic DPI, and its application awareness libraries can also be OEM'd by other providers into their policy, security and traffic management systems.
The acquisition certainly creates some overlap, and the press release talks about bringing together the best of both companies, which is usually shorthand for pending product consolidation.
