The Opportunity 

Lab Manager will be a hands-on leader, responsible for organizing and controlling all aspects of Sandvine’s lab environment including: supervising general workflow, ensuring quality customer service and maintenance of equipment, quality control, purchasing and day-to-day running of the lab. Lab Manager will possess excellent customer service skills in order to liaise with team members within Engineering, IT, Manufacturing, Quality Assurance, and other organizations with high quality and fast turnaround expectations. Additionally, the Lab Manager will negotiate deliverables and deadlines, monitor output, and respond quickly to breakdowns, bottlenecks or supply problems.

The Job

  • Organize and manage the activities/workflow in the Lab
  • Design and configure solutions based on end user requirements
  • Setup, configure and maintain servers, databases, network devices such as Routers, Switches, Firewalls, power controllers, desktops, UPS
  • Monitor and maintain Lab health
  • Manage network and server capacity and configurations.
  • Supervise the ordering, delivery, and appropriate testing of new hardware and supplies
  • Ensure equipment is tested, calibrated, and labeled where required to ensure accurate records and device sanity
  • Perform quality tests and ensure the company meets it quality assurance standards
  • Adhere to and monitor the change control process
  • Maintain lab documentation (such as lab descriptions, diagrams, and processes)
  • Implement a preventative maintenance program for equipment
  • Establish an approval process for removing any equipment
  • Make risk assessments for the Lab and ensure that company policy is observed
  • Evaluate and assess new tools and equipment

What Skills You Bring

  • Previous experience working as a lab technical specialist
  • Knowledge of equipment and processes used in a datacenter environment that relies on various automation technologies.
  • Strong Technical background with an understanding of networking, switches, specifically IP related technologies
  • Experience with FreeBSD, Linux, Solaris, or UNIX like operating systems
  • Experience with Firewall and Sniffer technologies (e.g. ipfw, TCP dump, snoop, wireshark)
  • Experience with scripting languages (e.g. Bash, Python, TCL, JavaScript, JS)
  • Experience in cloud based solutions such as Openstack, AWS, Azure
  • Experience working in a geographically diverse data centre operation
  • Strong analytical, problem solving and decision-making skills
  • Active listener with the ability to communicate ideas and instructions clearly and concisely
  • Networking, System and Application certifications (e.g. CCNA, CCNP, CCIE, RHCA, RHCE) would be considered an asset
  • Experience with open source monitoring tools such as MRTG and Nagios
  • Strong interest and enthusiasm for computer hardware and networking
  • Install and configure network(L2/L3 switches, routers, firewalls) and server hardware
  • Excellent domain knowledge in networking field either in mobile, telecom, embedded and/or cloud based systems/product solutions
  • Knowledge of equipment and processes used in a datacenter environment that relies on various automation technologies
  • Experience with operational metrics, maintaining accurate records, and compiling schedules and reports
  • Ability to make rational decisions in time sensitive situations
