I just returned from the 4th annual Wispapalooza 2014 show, the annual conference for Wireless Internet Service Providers (WISP). WISPs typically provide wireless Internet service to under-served rural areas throughout the United States, Canada, and the Caribbean. This is the must attend event if you're a WISP!
Wispapalooza continues to grow year after year - this year's event included over 1,000 attendees and 100 different manufacturers’ products were represented in the exhibit hall. The show began with intense technical training sessions, followed by 40 sessions covering topics from product overviews, operational business issues, and government regulations. Even the Chairman of the FCC paid Wispapalooza 2014 a visit. The sessions and the exhibit hall were jam packed with companies seeking advice and reviewing various types of equipment.
Procera teamed up with its reseller partner Powercode to provide a powerful combined operational management solution for the WISP market. We heard from more than one source that the Procera-Powercode solution was the “buzz” of the show. Procera’s ability to control Netflix traffic was a hot topic in the CEO breakout session. Controlling over-the-top streaming media traffic continues to be a high priority challenge that most WISPs are struggling to control. The Procera “demo couch” was in full swing throughout the open exhibit hall hours, providing non-stop dual demonstrations of the Procera and Powercode solution.
It was great to reconnect with several of our current WISP customers. Many came by and provided unsolicited testimonials to prospective customers standing in the booth. We heard customer comments like: “Procera’s software has given us bandwidth control of streaming media traffic and has resulted in customers enjoying their application experience more than ever”. Another customer stated that their “customers are much happier, since the Procera deployment - complaints have dropped by over 80%! Service operating expenses have also been reduced significantly”. One customer even stated that the Procera software “saved his WISP business by mitigating a serious prolonged DDoS attack, that would have cost a significant number of customers.” It's great to hear these kinds of comments, validating the impact we are having for WIPSs using Procera software.
The last day of the show, we needed to bring extra chairs to the booth for software demonstrations - it was standing room only! With this great response, we are looking forward to Wispapalooza 2015!
