Just returned from the NTCA Wireless Symposium and WiExpo in Las Vegas. This whirlwind two day event had a very concise and jam packed agenda. We were pleased to be an exhibiting vendor for this large, established service provider show. The specific focus on wireless support and growth for rural service providers, is particularly important. Many thanks to NTCA for putting on a great event. Despite the record cold weather conditions that swept the country, which caused challenging air travel to the event, attendance was good. We were able to re-acquaint ourselves with several existing customers, and meet up with prospective customers as well.
Focus on wireless for rural providers is timely as the market is gearing up with a number of key elements that have come together to help providers make a successful entry into the wireless market. Developing strategies to address 3G/4G /LTE Mobile and fixed wireless deployments were addressed. Fixed wireless to the home was a key topic, as you would expect in rural environments, specifically with the ability to sustain higher bandwidth to rural customers with new signaling technologies. Leveraging big data, and cloud computing were also on the minds of the attendees.
Funding for rural providers continues to be a key issue, especially as plans to deploy wireless infrastructure develop. Phase ll Connect America Mobility Fund, BIP funding and RUS funding will continue to be sources for rural providers to seek out. Also the availability to turn to a variety of service vendors, that provide some level of consolidated technical expertise, will help the efforts to deploy wireless infrastructure.
It was good to see several of our current customers, and hear them validate their decision to invest in Procera solutions. Billing system integration, and revenue generation were desired follow on activities with our current customers. One large prospective customer shared with us, the need to replace a specific major wireless infrastructure providers DPI equipment, which has been given an EOL after only 4 years. He specifically stated “ I need to replace this EOL equipment within the next twelve months, and Procera sounds like a great alternative to what we have today” This is great opportunity for us to support them in the months ahead.
