Today we celebrate Safer Internet Day, a global awareness campaign organized by Insafe to promote safer and more responsible use of online technology.
This event started in 2004 and focuses on ways everyone can help create a safer environment online - this is reflected in the Safer Internet Day tagline "Let's create a better internet together".
Procera first became aware of Safer Internet Day when we became part of the Internet Watch Foundation – an organization where anyone can report criminal online activity. We are proud to be part of these types of campaigns as we believe that everyone should have a good and safe experience online. Procera's business is all about improving the user experience and people feeling safe online is part of that.
This year, Safer Internet Day is focusing on how people use the Internet and mobile technology to make the world a better place. We have all heard of people using the Internet to do harm – to taunt others, to scam people or generally just to promote negative or harmful behaviours. But instead of focusing on all these negative Internet experiences, what about focusing on all the good things that come from having access to the Internet and mobile technology?
This line of thinking brought forth the #OneGoodThing campaign. The goal of the One Good Thing campaign is to drown out negativity activity online by showing all the great things that people are doing online and with connected technology to make the world (and the Internet) a better place.
We asked Procera employees to participate and they happily agreed! Many of them told us about “One Good Thing” that they had done online to make the Internet or the world a better place. Others told us about “One Good Thing” that made their lives better by having access to the Internet. It was amazing to hear about all the positive experiences online and all the ways our employees have used the Internet to help their communities. Take a look at the videos on our Twitter feed @ProceraNetworks and share your “One Good Thing” with the world using the hashtag #OneGoodThing and #SID2015
