As a busy father of three beautiful children that are growing up too fast I often question whether I am doing enough to expose them to those things that will truly make their heart sing. It particularly strikes me at this time of year as we try to take in as much of the Olympics together as a family as possible. All those young athletes that have found something they love and excel at. Should I have already introduced my 13 year old to curling, snowboarding, or cross-country skiing combined with precision rifle shooting?
This is a big part of the reason that I am excited to be supporting IGE day. Engineers build things that can change the world. If exposing young women to the wonders of engineering and the opportunities across the various engineering disciplines results in one individual finding her passion and true calling then I think our support of this program is well worth it.
IGE day is a global event and is an initiative from female engineers targeted towards girls and young women aged 12-19 to raise their interest in engineering and technology. Events around the world on IGE day provide opportunities for girls and young women to be exposed to the wonders of a variety of engineering disciplines. The day aims to demonstrate the profession’s diversity, provide the girls with engineering role models, and ultimately encourage the growth of female engineers within the industry.
Procera is proud to be participating in IGE day in both Sweden and Canada. Our goal is to provide young girls in each community with fun activities that aim to inspire them to consider a future career within engineering. Girls who participate in Procera’s IGE event will learn from some of the world’s best software developers.
In Sweden, IGE participants will visit our offices in Malmö and Varberg where the young women will get the chance to play with the latest technology, test their programming skills and socialize with our engineers. There will be a full day of fun and educational activities hosted at our world-class development facilities.
In Kelowna B.C., Canada, we will be attending UBC Okanagan’s IGE day. We will use our own products to demonstrate how the everyday mobile applications impacting the lives of millions are made possible by creative and disciplined engineers that are continuing to innovate and problem solve to develop the technology that will continue to change the world for years to come.
At Procera Networks we are really excited about IGE day and we hope the young ladies joining us are looking forward to this event as much as we are. This is our first time participating in this event and we encourage other industry members to take the time to help expose youth to the world of engineering and all it has to offer.
