Decorate your Data: Structuring data to make it actionable in Real-Time

Alexander Havang, Procera’s CTO, started using the term “decorate” to describe what Procera does to the data that we collect on the network awhile ago. Although “decorate” may bring up visions of brightly lit Christmas trees or a beautifully put together room in your house, it is extremely appropriate for what we do to data.

T-Mobile’s BingeOn: Big Data Science in Action

T-Mobile has upset the mobile data landscape yet again, with free Big Data Video streaming.

How can they offer this service? I’m speculating, but here at Procera we’ve done a few exercises similar to this for customers that led to unlimited services, so I think I have a good idea.

If we look at the service from a statistics and Big Data point of view of...

Multiple System Operators (MSOs) are at a critical juncture in the ongoing war for broadband subscribers. They often rank at the bottom of customer satisfaction indexes. CTIA: Three things you need to know about Mobile: “Video, Video, and Video”

I spent last week immersed in the latest and greatest in mobile at the CTIA Super Mobility 2015 show in Las Vegas. Attending CTIA is like getting to go to several different shows under one roof – where wearables, small cells, towers, accessories, and network vendors all coexist – not quite at the scale of Mobile World Congress, but a smaller version....

Digital Delivery of Windows 10 Spikes Downloads on Broadband Networks

I have always been fascinated by how the digital delivery of content can affect broadband networks. I did a study when the PS4 was released on what it took me to update the PS4 and get 4-5 good games downloaded to the platform (it was ~75GB if I recall correctly). Every time that Apple releases a software update or Microsoft releases patches, network...

World Cup: Global, Local, Mobile in Brazil

I am a huge fan of what is often referred to as “The Beautiful Game”. This game I am referring to is also known as soccer (aka football outside of North America). I have season tickets to my local Major League Soccer team (Go Revolution!) and take any chance I get to see great teams play in great stadiums. I have seen El Classico in the Camp Nou (where...

Network Neutrality: It is all about the Subscriber, right?

Today, the Network Neutrality rules go into effect for service providers in the United States. Much of the attention is focused on the “Bright Line” rules that were established and the Title 2 provisions, there was another fascinating part of the ruling that was not highlighted as much as it should have been.

LTE, WiFi, and NFV - New BFFs?

I spent the past few days at Informa's LTE MENA 2015 event in Dubai, and the operators and vendors were all focusing on the profitability and future of LTE networks. There were some interesting tracks of conversation that started to tie together technologies and solutions that some may view as unrelated, or even competitive.
