Subscriber Interaction

Back to [Sandvine Attack Traffic Mitigation]

Reduce Support Calls. Ensure Subscriber Satisfaction.

Support calls are expensive--that's a fact.  Managing anomalous surges and overall increases in call-center traffic can strain both your bottom line and your ability to ensure customer service levels.

As a service provider, you need to respond more quickly and more efficiently while better managing fluctuations in call-center traffic to reduce churn rates resulting from support-related issues.

Sandvine enables you to proactively communicate with your subscribers while they are online. Through the use of a captive portal, you can identify infected subscribers on the network and then present those subscribers with a message the next time they attempt to connect to a Website.  The customized captive portal Web page can include instructions on how to install a security offering as well as more immediate options such as access to disinfection agents.

How Does it Work?

Based on policies defined by you, the service provider, Sandvine takes action once conditions are met. For example, if a subscriber is found to be port scanning, Sandvine stops the attack at the precise port where the attack is launched. This allows legitimate traffic, like voice, video, and gaming to continue unaffected. Sandvine then redirects the next HTTP session from that individual subscriber to a captive portal where you inform the subscriber of the attack, suggest methods to clean his or her PC, educate and recommend disinfection agents, and potentially, generate an opportunity to up-sell.

The Power of Network Visibility

With per-subscriber visibility into the network, a captive portal can be employed to unfailingly warn infected subscribers that a malicious agent has compromised their computer and that its performance is suffering as a result. Links to removal tools can also be provided, so that the infected subscriber can cleanse the system within minutes of the your notification of the infection.

In addition to this, Sandvine's Security Operations team provides ongoing analysis to guarantee the optimal health of your networks and early warning in the event of an attack. Sandvine's visibility into a wide, global deployment of service provider networks is like a 'network telescope' collecting and uncovering malicious traffic threats at the earliest opportunity--before they spread around the world. This information is invaluable to support center staff as a means of up-to-the-minute education on what malicious attacks could potentially affect their customers, as well as the assurance that both the service provider and the subscribers' quality of experience are protected.
