Subscriber Policy Broker

Enabling Value-Added Applications

Managing today’s service provider networks is becoming increasingly difficult with the dramatic growth in subscriber traffic and expanding range of consumer broadband applications. And yet these very same networks actually contain all the necessary subscriber, application and quality metrics which enable service providers to better manage their networks and business. Powerful tools that can manage and interpret vast amounts of subscriber-usage data, and report such data at various granularities to key decision makers, are urgently needed.

The SPB is a primary component of Sandvine’s Network Policy Control architecture, residing on the SRP hardware, and including three functional components:

  • Subscriber Policy Broker – centralized data collection and storage, subscriber mapping, centralized policy and element configuration propagation, and public reporting APIs
  • Service Definition Manager – user-friendly GUI for centralized policy and element configuration management
  • Network Demographics – traffic statistics are counted in the PTS and stored in the SPB, and Network Demographics allows operators to graphically explore this data with a rich reporting interface
