Braintree, MA and Waterloo, ON; March 09, 2005 — Sandvine Incorporated today announced that Braintree Electric Light Department (BELD) has selected Sandvine’s award-winning IP service control suite to protect and improve the overall integrity of its broadband network.
Threats to network integrity from attack traffic (worms, spam and DoS attacks) will cost U.S. service providers more than $245 million this year. Unplanned equipment expenditures, spiking customer support costs and increasing transit fees are eating up service provider profits around the globe. Residential subscribers, who don’t have sophisticated IT departments to protect them, are being increasingly targeted. So service providers are looking for network-based solutions to combat this new flood of malicious code.
Massachusetts-based BELD has selected Sandvine’s Attack Traffic Mitigation solution to defend its network integrity against worm traffic. Sandvine can combat worm code at all five stages of its life cycle, stopping malicious traffic from within the network before it can reach subscribers.
“As attack traffic becomes more sophisticated and residential-focused, subscribers are looking to service providers to protect them,” said Brett Markham, BELD Network Engineer. “We need to ensure the best service possible for our subscribers and Sandvine allows us to address the threat of malicious traffic at the network level, well before it can reach our subscribers.”
