Mriehel, Malta and Waterloo, Ontario; October 16th, 2003 – Today at ITU Telecom World, Sandvine announced that Video-on-Line Ltd has selected Sandvine Peer-To-Peer Policy Management to improve traffic flows on its broadband network and enhance the online experience for its Internet subscribers.
The mushrooming growth of file-sharing applications has challenged every European service provider’s ability to control and optimise Internet traffic. P2P applications communicate with one another in an ad hoc fashion that does not map to the physical topology of broadband networks and can account for more than 70% of residential traffic.
After evaluating a variety of solutions to this problem that either diminished the online experience or proved less than effective in reducing overall P2P traffic, Video-on-Line elected to deploy Sandvine’s award-winning policy management technology as a means of reducing network congestion and even improving quality of service.
"We were looking for a solution that would help us maintain the best possible Internet experience for our subscribers," said George Galea, Managing Director of Video-on-Line. “During our evaluation, Sandvine’s intelligent re-direction approach met this criteria by allowing us to minimise the impact of P2P traffic on our network. We believe P2P Policy Management will actually enhance the value of our existing infrastructure investments.”
"Video-on-Line is committed to delivering an unmatched online experience to its broadband subscribers," said Tom Donnelly, Co-Founder and vice president of marketing for Sandvine. "Sandvine technology is transparent to end-users and will help Video-on-Line overcome the service degradations that, left unchecked, P2P applications threaten to create. We are very pleased to be working with them."
