Director, Consulting Solutions Engineering

Waterloo, Ontario

As the Director of the Consulting Solutions Engineering team you will manage a team of highly skilled Consulting System Engineers who provide consulting technical support to both internal and external customers.  This includes assisting global technical sales support to the field teams on the delivery of Sandvine products and solutions as well as paid consulting engagements for customers through the delivery of our subscription based professional services. 

Specific responsibilities will include:

  • Managing the Sales Engineers Training Program – guarantee the clear communication of the technical sales aspects of existing and new Sandvine solutions
  • Managing the corporate aspect of global technical sales support to the account teams in the form of pre-sales and post-sales activities as required
  • Providing technical marketing expertise to the Solutions Marketing team in the creation of the technical sales collateral required to market solutions originated from Sandvine consulting engagements as well as other identified strategic solutions
  • Managing the subscription based professional services   including complementary offers to the Network Business Intelligence solution portfolio
  • Managing the Solutions Engineering Function and associated staff at Sandvine, including establishing technical and professional development plans for the Solutions Engineering team
  • Assuring on-time delivery of new solution IP to the Solutions Marketing and Solutions Delivery teams
  • Work with other team managers in the implementation of an efficient process for Solution Productization
  • Ensuring educational development programs to grow the knowledge base of the consulting team
  • Creating an atmosphere in which timely and high quality information flows smoothly between corporate, employees, and management
  • Ensuring the team is focused on customer needs and driven to grow Customer Satisfaction
  • Working with peers in order to leverage ideas, implement them, and share team triumphs and failures as learning tools
    Establishing  direction and clear communication for the team
  • Aligning people – Communicating the direction by works and deeds to all whose cooperation may be needed so as to influence the creation of coalitions that understand the vision and strategies, and accept their validity
  • 10+ years applicable industry experience – telecommunications, data networking, operational support systems, and/or technical consulting
  • BS/BA degree or equivalent in an technical field, MBA preferred
  • Prior experience managing technical engineering staff
  • Thorough understanding of data and telecommunications industry, its vendors, and evolving technologies
  • Thorough understanding of organizational structures, management practices, staff development and retention
  • Thorough knowledge of relevant solution sets, product line specifications, performance criteria, and applications
  • Thorough competitive knowledge including solutions, technology, and product offerings
  • Proven track record of managing high performance and multi-disciplinary teams by displaying  a role-model behaviour.
  • Ability to coach and mentor team members in an effective manner ensuring the right behaviours are rewarded and performance concerns addressed
  • Ability to translate company’s strategy and roadmap into specific deliverables and tasks for team members.
  • Strong track record of change management in the implementation of new processes and the creation of transition paths to ensure business continuity.
  • Understand and be conversant about Sandvine, its solutions, product strengths, weaknesses, opportunities and threats
  • Excellent written and verbal communications, listening, negotiation, and presentation skills
  • Demonstrated technical and consultative skills that above reproach
  • Willingness to travel (<15% travel)
